project 365: day 43: floating away

day 43: self

apparently, the homage to 9 1/2 Weeks was a little jarring for some viewers. wonder if the impromptu bikini shot will get some panties in a bunch. i was just messing around and only did 3 poses. this was my fave. if you click on the picture it opens up to a much bigger and clearer image. try it:)

project 365: day 42: bright sky

day 42: summer

i have been such a slacker, actually, i have been working a lot. i missed another day this week so i hope i don't stretch this project out for 18 months:) this picture was taken on such a gorgeous day. beautiful, bright, warm, and sunny.

25 April 2009

project 365: day 41: lemonade

day 41: so beautiful you can taste it

jaco and i took a walk this evening. the past two days have been so beautiful and i feel this picture represents that. nothing is in focus, everything is warm and bright. if you licked the photo you would taste lemonade.

24 April 2009

rockefeller preserve

we had such an awesome day at the Rockefeller Preserve that I wanted to include these pictures as well. enjoy.
xo

project 365: day 40: balance, nature, and self-timers

day 40: all 3 of us

timothy and i took jaco to the Rockefeller Preserve today and it was awesome. it is still such a beautiful day outside. i managed to balance this camera on a rock, careen my way over boulders and rapids to timothy, and balance in time to take the shot: in 10 seconds, whew! somehow jaco got himself in the shot as well and it became a family portrait. love.

project 365: day 39: homage to '9 1/2 Weeks'

day 39: where's mickey rourke?

i recently saw 9 1/2 weeks and am a bit obsessed with it. i wanted to semi-recreate the refrigerator scene in an overexposed, blown out sort of way. my neighbors must have been very confused if they happened to look out their windows...
ps- i'm eating grapes, and no, 'slave to love' was not playing in the background, though it should have been:)

artson mausoleum

ferncliff cemetery

this picture is unrelated to the project. i think this doorway is really beautiful, but i'm still freaked out about the bodies inside.

project 365: day 38: death in the walls

day 38: cold and blue

i drove past a huge cemetery today and stopped in to take pictures. it was a perfect (and horrible) day to be in a cemetery with a camera. it was dark, overcast, and there was a heavy fog in the air. there were 3 huge mausoleums in the cemetery and the picture above is of the first one. it was clearly the oldest. i was totally uncomfortable the entire time i was here. it was cold, almost silent, all marble, smelling of fake flowers, and strange music played through speakers in the hallways. i didn't want to be disrespectful of the space, but my stomach was in knots the whole time. i could not shake the fact that there were walls full of dead bodies and ashes. hundreds of people were in the walls.

project 365: day 37: candles in the dark

day 37: saturation

this is a picture of the candles at work. i didn't have much time to shoot yesterday, but the lighting and color is pretty cool.

project 365: day 36: wrist

day 36: wrist
20 april

i was bad, i skipped a day of shooting. timothy took some pictures of me making a mess of myself while eating a grapefruit, but i didn't post them because it would have been cheating:) this is a self-portrait. may as well be an advertisement for american apparel.

project 365: day 35: roasted tomatoes

day 35: lunch!
18 april

i roasted this gorgeous yellow tomato for lunch on saturday. i dipped the slices in breadcrumbs and pan fried them with chives and olive oil. awesome lunch:)

17 April 2009

project 365: day 34: baby through the window

day 34: stolen shot

my husband and i were in a hot dog shop buying lunch when i noticed this cute little baby. her parents were sitting outside and i could get a clear view of her, so i sneaked some shots. i always get nervous shooting kids because i think their parents will get suspicious or upset. good thing they didn't see me:) she's a cutie.

taken by timothy

timothy grabbed the camera and started taking pictures of me today. i haven't been feeling so hot and i never want my picture taken, hence, the hand over my face. the camera was set on a super high film speed and a super slow shutter speed which gives it a really blown-out look. i like it, i like the detail of the balloons and the happy birthday sign behind me. cool.

project 365: day 33: orchids

day 33: orchids and light

this was taken at the restaurant where i work. the sun sets right across the river and the light is so beautiful. i've wanted to shoot these orchids for a while now. this was good timing. i love the detail of the unopened buds toward the bottom of the plant.

project 365: day 32: timothy

day 32: timothy

he's always such a good sport and so photogenic, i'm the opposite in both ways. this was taken while we were both relaxing on the couch and i realized i had not taken any photos that day. timothy was watching the yankee game and volunteered to be the subject. love.

14 April 2009

project 365: day 31: halsey pond castle

day 31: the Tudors

i took Jaco to Halsey Pond today to get a change of scenery. this little castle sits at one end of the pond and looks like it could have been there for hundreds of years. it reminds me of the Tudors on Showtime.

project 365: day 30: all the pretty horses

day 30: horsetail clouds

this shot was taken last night at sunset over the hudson river. these kinds of wispy horsetail clouds are my favorite. they appear to be so high above us and make the sky look huge and sprawling.

12 April 2009

project 365: day 29: grace

day 29: little ballerina

timothy, jaco and i took a long walk to Lyndhurst, an old Irvington estate. the only trees in bloom are tulip trees and the blossoms are so beautiful. this blossom reminds me of a ballerina. this is a great representation of the day.

11 April 2009

project 365: day 28: yoga

day 27: yoga after a long run

i just got back from a long run with Jaco and did some yoga stretches in my very busy-looking living room. there is a lot going on in the photo, i like the different kinds of lights, the string of lights, the reflection of lights in the mirror, the standing lamp over my shoulder... enjoy.

project 365: day 27: links and lubins

day 26: specialty hot dogs:)

yesterday my husband and i took a lunch break together and he took me to this new specialty hot dog place. they have about 50 different ways to order meat on a roll, which i love, and is dangerous for me know:) we had an awesome time, i love days like this.

09 April 2009

project 365: day 26: yellow room

day 25: self-timer

i wasn't satisfied with the other stuff i shot today so i took off my homely sweatshirt and tried to be creative for a minute. i'm really enjoying the 1970's yellowed feeling that our apartment apparently possesses. every picture i take inside the apartment at night looks like it was taken about 30 years ago. my hippie hair and the costa rican scarf over the lamp just add to the throwback feeling. hope you like.

project 365: day 25: jazz trio

day 24: 120 yr old sax player

these guys played a set last night at the restaurant where i work. they were really cool, and really old:) the sax player was the best because he was about 120, coughed every time he played, and announced the name of the song like the Godfather. i think they played "georgia on my mind" at least 3 times. awesome.

07 April 2009

self-inspired

this image doesn't have anything to do with Project 365. i realized i was taking my camera with me whenever i left the house and that i was in search of something inspiring and interesting enough to photograph. i then realized that i should really be more creative and actually compose images that i want, tell a story, paint a picture with my images. i hope you enjoy the deviation from the project.

project 365: day 24: bottle tree

day 24: glass bottle tree

this house is on a little side street in Irvington. colored glass bottles hang from the tree in their front yard, looks really cool. i counted 37 bottles and 3 round ornaments. how many do you see?

project 365: day 23: Prohibition Eggs

day 23

I saw these eggs on the bar at the restaurant where I work and asked what the point was. After Prohibition bars had to serve food with alcohol in order to get a liquor license. Many establishments put hard boiled or pickled eggs on the bar. I love the tradition and think egg wheels look rather odd and always invoke the story.

05 April 2009

project 365: day 22: bohemian rose

day 22: perfect ranunculus

this is my favorite flower, the ranunculus. it comes in many different colors and i love it because it looks like a slightly disheveled bohemian rose. i have been staring at this one for days, anxious to take its picture.

project 365: day 21: tourist

day 21: tourist

this is Grand Central Terminal on a weekend day. oddly (and perfectly) enough there was a bridal party to the bottom right corner taking photographs in the middle of the station around 5pm. why not choose the busiest place on earth to capture newlyweds?! this is a good representation of the love/hate cycle with new york city. i've spent many frustrating minutes rushing through this station and weaving in between tourists and people who seem to have all day to get from point A to point B. i almost always remember to look up at the amazing constellation painted on this ceiling before elbowing someone out of my way and continuing onward.

03 April 2009

project 365: day 20: my husband cooking for me

day 20: stuffed mushrooms

timothy made me his famous stuffed mushrooms tonight and they were awesome. i love when my husband cooks for me. he looks good doing it too:)

02 April 2009

project 365: day 19: path of the headless horseman...

day 19: welcome?

this is a private road in irvington, but it may as well be the path of the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow to the north of us. there was some crazy fog this morning and the air was chilly and saturated. you can see where Washington Irving drew his inspiration.

01 April 2009

project 365: day 18: fresh baked

day 18: fresh baked

we had a craving for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, so here they are:) in my baking experience, the best chocolate chips are Ghiradelli milk chocolate chips. also, you can add cinnamon and cardamom to almost anything and it makes it taste better. can you smell them through the picture?
xo

project 365: day 17: fetch!

day 17: fetch

i like how this photo has a wide angle feel to it. he was running after a ball and i didn't have time to properly frame the shot, but i like how it turned out. this is in a field on the aqueduct trail in irvington. again, there is a better representation of the shot on my Flickr website. go to: http://www.flickr.com/photos/48237060@N00/. this is my photostream and the quality is superior.
thanks:)!
